Asha for Education is an international non-profit organization with a primary focus on basic education in India. The broader mission is to catalyze socio-economic change in India through the education of underprivileged children. The word “Asha” means “hope” in many Indian languages. With this aim in mind, we strive forward with the hope that this generation will bring the liberating force of education to the underprivileged children of India. The Chicago Chapter of Asha for Education began in the year 1996. Keeping the objectives in mind, the Chicago Chapter of Asha for Education currently supports over 1,500 students in 5 projects.

Asha Chicago works towards promoting the education of underprivileged children in India by providing financial assistance and support to the NGOs focused on education projects. Volunteers of Asha work closely with the project partners in India, while locally organizing fundraisers and community awareness events. Chicago Marathon, organized by Bank of America in downtown Chicago is Asha Chicago’s primary fundraiser, in addition to Cricket Tournament, an annual fundraiser with various activities etc., all of which directly help support several education projects in India.
