In 2006, a crew from the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps gathered in Central Park to cheer on our dear friend Vishal, who had just finished the NYC marathon for the first time. (See pic below from our celebrations that day.) Somehow, even after running 26.2 miles, Vishal was full of his signature boisterous energy and warmth! He raised money that year for Asha for education, a cause near and dear to his heart.
Vishal was a dental student, volunteer EMT, park ranger, beloved brother, son, and friend. He learned Hebrew words and brought Kosher baked goods on Shabbat to connect with the largely Orthodox ambulance corps members. He taught me about the national parks and running and made the world feel infinitely lighter, more fun, and more welcoming. Vishal tragically passed away in 2009.
Now, nearly 20 years after he first ran the NYC marathon for Asha, I am running the Chicago marathon for Asha in Vishal’s honor. Will you consider donating to support this amazing organization and Vishal’s legacy?
- Up to $50: your name on my shirt at the marathon!$
- 50-$150: your name on my shirt + a handwritten thank you card
- $150+: all of the above + a souvenir from Chicago
Thank you for anything you can give. Your support means the world to me
