“Be the change you wish to see in this world”
Those who know me, know that I am far from being an athlete. In order to raise funds for Asha, I started running at age of 44. In the last few years, I have completed a few half marathons and one full marathon in order to raise funds.
This year, I am going to run the Chicago Marathon on 13th October 2019. I am taking this challenge as an opportunity to make some difference in the lives of underprivileged and poverty-stricken children in India. My primary goal here is to raise funds for a cause closest to my heart: “Education for underprivileged children”.
Why am I doing this?
We all are very fortunate to be in the place where we are today and to have choices in life. There are millions of children in India who do not have a choice but to work as child laborers. Most of them grow up without ever going to a school, not knowing what it would have been like to get an education. This is an effort to give them a choice to get educated.
A choice to experience a better life and a chance to be a child again. I have been given so many blessings throughout my life for which I am most grateful, and I want to take this opportunity to return a small portion of it by raising funds for Asha for Education, dedicated to change in India by focusing on basic education in the belief that education is a critical requisite for socio-economic change. It is heartbreaking to know that there are still millions of children in India growing up and not going to school. This lack of education can mean less economic opportunities and continuation of the cycle of poverty for them. Running to raise funds is my small effort to give these children a choice to get educated. I hope you can support me by generously donating through my fundraising page.
