Navjyoti, near Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh, India), provides education to children from Benarasi saree weaving community who would otherwise end up on the streets or work in local shops. Navjyoti has two schools (in Harsos and Nagepur village near Varanasi) that provide formal and non-formal education. It also runs 11 kishori kendras (Women’s Centers – for providing vocational training to females) and more than 30 self-help groups in the region. Navjyoti organizes summer training workshops that include sewing, handicrafts, painting, computers, English speaking, beautician course, candle and pappad making, street play and puppet shows.
